Letter From Michelle Foster, Executive Director, NASLEF

Dear members, partners, and friends,

As I reflect on the work of 2024, I think about all the ways that our communities, our work, and our sense of connection have been reshaped over the past few years. Yet through it all, we’ve remained resolute: committed to our mission, our people, and the communities we serve. We built new structures for collaboration, strengthened our internal systems, and leaned into the power of partnership. Together, we emerged more focused, more connected, and more determined than ever.

The year also brought moments of joy and transformation. Our Charlottesville conference was a highlight—a celebration of local culture, collective wisdom, and bold ideas. From moments of connection to impromptu hallway breakthroughs, it reminded us of what’s possible when we gather with intention and heart. Engagement surged across our Trade Councils, sparking fresh dialogue and renewed energy. These spaces are becoming not just forums, but engines of change.

This chapter served as a proving ground for our partnerships and principles. We pushed forward, testing the boundaries of our collective strength and recommitting to the values that guide us: collaboration, local presence, impact, lifelong learning, trusted partners, and unity.

Now, we invite you to continue to build with us. The housing crisis demands more than policy—it demands presence. In the face of uncertainty, we remain rooted in local communities while driving national impact. Your voice, your leadership, your partnership—these are the tools that will shape what comes next.

Thank you for joining us on this journey. For believing in the power of housing, community, and connection. For showing up—in boardrooms, breakout rooms, and beyond.

With hope and gratitude,

Michelle Foster
Executive Director
